A non-WiFi automatic cat feeder can still offer repeat schedules and measured meals. What it does not offer is a phone alert when something goes wrong. That trade-off is easier to live with if you have checked the mechanism with your own kibble, know the battery requirement and have a human check-in plan for time away. The timed feeder guide explains the scheduling modes; this page narrows the purchase to models whose controls do not depend on WiFi.

We selected four exact models already represented on BowlScout. Two dispense from a dry-food hopper; two rotate pre-filled compartments. The distinction matters more than their appearance. A hopper can serve repeated small dry meals until it needs refilling, but is not a wet-food container. A tray lets you decide the food and amount in each compartment, but runs out after a small number of openings and must be loaded by hand. Never treat a lid or an ice pack as a universal food-safety timer; follow the food maker’s storage instructions for your own room and trip length.

Comparison table: local controls and food fit

Maker-stated features checked 2026-10-12; no hands-on reliability ranking.
Exact modelFood and mechanismSchedule / portionPowerWhy consider it
PETLIBRO Granary 5 L, button version PL-AF006Dry kibble; hopperUp to 6 daily meals; 1–50 portions, about 20 ml each5 V adapter with battery backup documented by makerFrequent small dry meals set locally
PetSafe Healthy Pet Simply Feed PFD00-14574Dry or semi-moist kibble; conveyorUp to 12 daily meals; 1/8–4 cups per meal4 D-cell batteries; optional wall adapterWide schedule range and 15-minute Slow Feed for eligible meals
PetSafe 5 Meal PFD11-13707Pre-filled rotating trayFive 1-cup compartments; one is available immediately4 D-cell batteriesNo hopper and a simple tray routine
Cat Mate C500, standard trayWet or dry pre-filled tray; two reusable ice packsFive compartments; four timed openings3 AA batteriesPrepared wet meals with local timer and cooling packs

The volume values above are not interchangeable calorie amounts. A PETLIBRO 20 ml portion and a PetSafe 1/8-cup setting move different food volumes, and the weight of the food depends on the kibble. Measure dispensed meals with your actual food before relying on a schedule. The PetSafe 5 Meal tray’s “1 cup” describes compartment capacity; you can put less into it. It does not automatically weigh that food.

Four documented picks

PETLIBRO Granary button version: dry-food convenience with local setup

PETLIBRO’s support instructions for PLAF005 and PLAF006 show the setting button, screen and portion programming; they state up to six meals per day. Its Granary 5 L product page lists a roughly 20 ml portion and a 2–15 mm dry-kibble size range. Those are the numbers to check against your food. The ASIN above is already used on BowlScout’s timed cat feeder page as the button version. Because PETLIBRO sells several Granary models, inspect the listing’s model number before buying; an app-enabled WiFi listing with a similar name is a different product.

Who it is for: someone who wants repeat dry meals without an account or network setup. Who should skip: a household using wet food or needing proof on a phone that a serving actually landed in the bowl. A local screen tells you what is programmed, not whether a cat ate the food. If your cat is very particular about kibble, run an extended test with the actual bag before relying on it while out.

PetSafe Simply Feed: more schedule slots and a different dispenser

PetSafe specifies 12 meals per day, 1/8- to 4-cup meal sizes, a 24-cup hopper and a conveyor designed for dry or semi-moist kibble up to 3/4 inch. The current product page says four D-cell batteries are required and a wall adapter is sold separately. Its 15-minute Slow Feed is available for meals larger than 1/8 cup; it does not subdivide the minimum meal. These are maker features, not claims that the device never jams or that a cat will finish a measured portion.

Who it is for: a cat household that needs more than six scheduled meals or a documented slow-feed option. Who should skip: someone whose food is wet, whose kibble exceeds the maker’s limit or who expects included mains power. A 24-cup hopper may be unnecessary for one cat, and a larger reservoir does not replace cleaning and checking the remaining food.

PetSafe 5 Meal: a measured tray, with a short horizon

PetSafe’s 5 Meal Feeder is a tray, not a dispenser measuring each meal from a hopper. You fill compartments yourself. The tray design can make different pre-measured portions straightforward, but it also means there are only five physical servings until someone loads it again. The maker lists battery power and describes the model for cats and small to medium dogs. Confirm the exact food compatibility and cleaning instructions in the current manual, particularly if you plan anything other than dry food.

Who it is for: an owner who wants simple local scheduling and prefers to portion meals by hand. Who should skip: someone who wants weeks of automatic dry feeding from a reservoir or assumes a tray is refrigerated. For a wet-food plan, choose only a maker-documented cooling design and follow the food manufacturer’s storage rules. The wet-food feeder guide compares that separate problem.

Cat Mate C500: a wet-food-compatible local timer

Closer Pets describes the C500 as a five-compartment feeder with one bowl available immediately, four programmed openings and two reusable ice packs. It lists three AA batteries and a timer set on the unit. The standard plastic tray and the stainless-insert variant are not the same package, so inspect the listing’s tray contents. The ice packs are a cooling aid, not active refrigeration; the actual safe interval depends on food, preparation, room conditions and the maker’s instructions.

Who it is for: a cat eating prepared wet meals during a short absence, or someone who wants four timed tray openings without WiFi. Who should skip: a buyer who needs active temperature control, more than four future openings, or no cleaning between uses. Read the vacation feeding guide before trusting any tray as a substitute for a human visit during a long trip.

No WiFi does not mean no failure points

A local-control feeder avoids an account and network connection, but it still needs correct clock time, enough power, suitable food and an unblocked mechanism. PetSafe Simply Feed’s battery requirement is different from Cat Mate’s three AA batteries; one label should not be copied onto another model. If a feeder offers both an adapter and batteries, confirm whether batteries are backup or the primary source and whether they are included. Test an outage deliberately, then check that the schedule and clock behave as expected when power returns.

Also separate an app-free product from an app-enabled product that happens to keep an existing schedule during WiFi loss. The latter may require network setup to change the schedule or to receive alerts. For those trade-offs, see WiFi cat feeders. If food stealing or different diets is your actual problem, none of these open-bowl timers identifies a cat; use the RFID and microchip feeder guide instead.

A five-minute shortlist check

  1. Name the food. Dry hopper, pre-filled dry tray and cooled wet tray are distinct categories. Do not put wet food in a dry hopper.
  2. Count real feedings. A five-compartment tray has one immediately available compartment; it does not mean five future timer events. Compare the remaining slots with your planned absence.
  3. Measure one meal. Use your actual food to see what a programmed portion dispenses. A volume step is not a gram or calorie promise.
  4. Test power and clock. Install the specified batteries, run the schedule across at least the interval you will rely on and simulate a power loss if the maker documents backup operation.
  5. Plan a human check. A feeder can dispense while the bowl is blocked, food is damp or the cat is unwell. A reliable plan includes someone who can see both the pet and the feeder.

The point of a local-control shortlist is to remove unnecessary connectivity without giving up careful fit checks. Keep the chosen model’s current manual with your feeding plan so someone else can refill or troubleshoot it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an automatic cat feeder work without WiFi?

Yes. The four models here use onboard buttons or timers for their schedules. They still need power, correct programming and food that suits their mechanism.

Which non-WiFi model here can hold wet food?

Closer Pets documents the C500 for wet or dry food with two reusable ice packs. Cooling time is conditional; follow the food manufacturer’s storage guidance and the C500 manual.

How many meals does a five-meal tray give after I fill it?

One compartment is available immediately on the C500 and four are future timed openings. Check the PetSafe tray’s program sequence separately. Count physical compartments and planned openings, not just the name.

Is a battery feeder automatically safer during a power cut?

Battery operation removes one mains dependency, but low batteries, wrong time, blocked food and an empty tray remain possible. Test the exact feeder and maintain a human backup.

Can these feeders stop one cat eating another’s meal?

No. A timer controls when food appears; it does not identify which cat reaches an open bowl. See the RFID guide for controlled access.
